Ch.11- Factorial Design Flashcards
Factorial Design
Experimental design with more than 1 IV
Hybrid Design
Any factorial design that has at least one quasi-independent variable
Interaction
One IV’s influence on the dependent variale changes depending on the level of the other independent variable
Main Effect Hypothesis
Prediction that focuses on one independent variable at a time ignoring all other iVs
Interaction Effect Hypothesis
Prediction about how the levels of one IV will combine with another IV to impact the dependent variabe in a way that extends beyond the sum of the 2 seperate effects
Crossover Interaction
When the infuence of one IV on the otehr reverses across levels of the other variable
i.e. scent helps effectiveness of direct pickup line and hindered indirect line
2 Way ANOVA
Simultaneosly test how 2 seperate nomical or categorical IV influence the DV, and how those independent variables interact to influence the DV
Cell Mean
Mean on the DV for participants with a specific combination
Marginal Mean
Average of all participants on one level of the IV
Synergistic Effect
2 variables combine to produce an outcome that is bigger than what each one contributes
Suppression Etffect
Effect whee 2 variables combine to produce an outcome that is smlaler than what each individual variable contributes
