Ch. 13- Research in the Real World Flashcards
Program Evaluation
Using scientific method to assess whether an organized activity is achieving its intended objectives
Grant Writing:
Developing an application where the organization provides specific info regarding the program’s goals along with evidence of the program’s effectiveness in order to gain monetary gifts
Needs Evaluation
Determines which features of a program are most valuable and who they benefit most
To identify program features to continue to discontinue and to determine potential new components to add
Helpful for program planning
Process Evaluation
Assesses general program operation, including who the program serves and how the program delivers services to that population
Determines ways to improve program implementation and delivery
Also seeks to ensure a match between program goals and those serviced
Outcomes Evaluation
Determines whether a program effectively produces outcomes that are consistent with the stated objectives or goals
Identifies unmet goals and outcomes the program can improve in order to better serve the clients or establish evidence for program effectiveness
Program Evaluation Process
Planning
Execution
Communication of results
Planning
Identify key stakeholders ( who will use the program)
Describe program
Clarify evaluation’s goals
Create evaluation plan
Communication of Results
Form conclusions
Make recommendations
Report Results
Programmatic Research:
• Only one item or question being used to measure a variable
• Can have reliability issues
○ Measurements can fluctuate more due to random error
• Only measures effectiveness in the general sense
Not able to determine specific outcomes
Single Sample T Test
Statistic to evaluate whether a sample mean statistically differs from a specific value
