Ch.10 Flashcards
What is most important species SERRATIA?
S. marcescens
Distinguishing Features S. marcescens?
✔️motile
✔️utilize most carbohydrates with the production of acid and gasبتسخدم الكاربوهيدرات كمصدر للطاقه ونواتج هاي العمليه بتكون
Gaz and acid
✔️grow well at 30–37°C
✔️ Capsules are not normally formed, except on a well aerated medium poor in nitrogen and phosphate.
Pigmented strains may cause concern by giving rise to red colours in food or by simulating the appearance of blood in the sputum or faece
SERRATIA that can casee Disease such as?
🌿Infections of the urinary and respiratory tracts, 🌿meningitis, 🌿wound infections, ☘️septicaemia and endocarditisin in hospital patients.
⭕️Some strains become established endemically in hospitals and may cause outbreaks of infection.
SERRATIA Pathogenesis❔❕
🔅Fimbriae: including those exhibiting mannose-sensitive and mannoseresistant haemagglutination.
🔅 A 56-kDa protease: host tissue damage بساعد في spred infuction
🔅 Toxins resembling E. coli verocytotoxin and heat-labile toxin
Treatment SERRATIA?!
Resistant to cephalosporins.Resistance to ampicillin and gentamicin is variable. Gentamicin, is usually the most reliable first-line choice.
Cronobacter spescies?!
Cronobacter sakazakii

Disease(s) and Pathogenesis and Treatment of
Cronobacter sakazakii?!
💫Disease ➡️ in infants causing necrotizing enterocolitis, sepsis and meningitis
💫Pathogenesis➡️ Mechanisms by which disease is caused appear to include adhesion to the host tissues, multiplication within host tissues and possibly toxins
💫 Treatment➡️ Disease usually responds to treatment with ampicillin and gentamicin
Hafania species?!
