What is Psychoanalytic Theory and who’s theory is it?
Freud and children have fundamental biological drives that must be satisfied or development won’t progress
What is Stage Theory and who’s theory is it?
Erikson and similar theory to Freud but more focused on culture, identity, politics, sex roles, cognition
What is Behaviorism/learning theory and who’s theory is it?
Watson/Skinner and child develops in response to environment… it’s all about learning. Theory is continuous (not stages), don’t really have a role for early relationships.
What is Social-information processing and who’s theory is it?
Kenneth Dodge and focuses on the way children and teenagers process information in social situations. It suggests that children with disruptive behavior problems perceive, interpret, and make decisions about social information in ways that increase their likelihood to engage in aggressive behaviors
What is Social Cognitive Theory and who’s theory is it?
Albert Bandura and believed children learned through observing others
interactions ,being model to ,and also imitating
others . Emphasis on learning through observation and
imitation of other people
Who also does Social Cognitive Theory and what is different about it?
Carol S. Dweck and one’s mindset is what sets them apart from others, not
intelligence or talent
What is Ethological approach and who’s theory is it?
Konrad Lorenz and Lorenz utilized imprinting and other innate biological
drives/mechanisms as a tool to understand development.
Focused on evolutionarily adaptive behaviors
What is Bioecological (biological & ecological) and who’s theory is it?
Urie Bronfenbrenner and Views child development as a complex system of
connections affected by multiple levels of environment. (ie.
school, home, laws, customs…)
