Upright patient positioning
Pt chair should be upright while getting seated
Semi upright/ Semi supine
Reclined about 45 degrees. Indications include cardiovascular disease, vertigo, respiratory disease
Supine
Brain at heart level, back of chair parallel to the floor, ideal position
Trendelenburg
Brain is below heart level, tipped back 10-15 degrees lower than supine, usually used during medical emergencies
At what level should the patients mouth be at supine
Patients mouth should be at clinicians elbow
Contraindications for supine position
Congestive heart failure, vertigo, respiratory conditions, pregnant women in second and third trimesters
Description of neutral seated position (NSP)
Back in neutral alignment with spinal curve, head should have forward flex of 15-20 degrees, eyes directed downward, shoulders relaxed and parallel with hips, elbows close to body, forearms parallel with floor, wrists in straight line with forearm, hips should be slightly higher than the knees, thighs are evenly distributed, knees slightly apart, feet flat on floor
Distance from eyes to oral cavity
15-22 inches
Light position for maxilla
With chin up, light should be between chest and neck area
Light position for mandible
With chin down, light should be over oral cavity
Median nerve through hand
Median nerve plays large part in occupational hand conditions
Are coiled cords recommended in the work area?
