Q

What are the primary OT interventions for Phase 1 of cardiopulmonary rehab?

A
  • edema management secondary to lymphatic dysfunction
  • exercise/stretching at low to mod intensity
(strenuous activity is contraindicated- will exacerbate lymphedema)
  • occupation based interventions
  • education (skin care, don/doff compression garments, environmental mods, energy conservation, work simplification)

Q

What are the breathing recommendations for cardiopulmonary patients?

A
  • Diaphragmatic breathing which decreases energy required
  • Pursed lip breathing which decreased rate of breathing and expels trapped air
  • should be done during ALL activities/exercises
