Q

When anesthetic induction is by an IM agent or combination what happens?

A
  • anesthetic depth gradually increases post injection (5 to 20 min)
  • gradually decreases after peak effect (30 to 60 min) until agent is metabolized
  • once you give injection you have little control over changes in depth or peak effect

Q

What can you do after giving an IM Agent or a combination when there is inadequate depth and excessive depth?

A

inadequate depth - give additional anesthetic
excessive depth - monitor, support your patient until agent is metabolized, may need a reversal agent (may be too late in the metabolize process)
