Peer testimony
Testimony from ordinary people with first hand experience or insight on a topic
Difference between paraphrase & direct quote
Direct quote–> is testimony presented word for word
Paraphrase–> you restate or summarize a sources ideas in ones own words
Quoting out of context
Quoting a statement in a way to distort it’s meaning by removing the statement from the words & phrases surrounding it
Strategic Organization
Putting speech together in particular way to achieve a particular result with a particular audience.
Main Points
Major points developed in body of the speech. Most contain 2-5 main points
Casual order
Speech Organization–> main points show cause-effect relationship
Spatial Order
Speech Organization–>main points follow directional path
Problem Solution Order
Speech Organization–> the 1st main point deals with existence of a problem & 2nd main point presents a solution to the problem
Chronological Order
Speech Organization–> main points follow a time pattern
Topical Order
Speech Organization–> main points divide the topic into logical and consistent subtopics
Tips for preparing Main Points (3)
- Keep points separate
- Use same pattern of wording for main points
- Balance the amount of time devoted to main points

Connections & Transitions
Connection –> word or phrase that connects ideas of a speech & indicates the relationship between them.
Transition –> word or phrase that indicates when a speaker has finished one thought & is moving on to another.

Statement in body of speech that lets the audience know what the speakers going to discuss next
Internal Summary
Statement in bod of speech that summarizes the speakers preceding point
Signposts
Very brief statement that indicates where a speaker is in the speech or that focuses attention on key ideas
