16
Q

How do weathering and erosion form a deep canyon?

A

The water of a fast moving river breaks down rock. Over many years, the running water carries enough weathered material away to form a deep canyon.

17
Q

What happens when a river or stream slows down?

A

As the river slows, the sediment drops out of the water.

18
Q

What effect does the Shasta Dam have on the people of California?

A

The Shasta Dam controls the flood water of the Sacramento River, it also supplies irrigation water to farmers in California’s Central Valley. This has helped make agriculture very important supplying a quarter of all the food Americans eat.

19
Q

How are moraine and erratic alike and different?

A

Erratic and moraine are formed by the movement of glaciers. They differ because an erratic is a large boulder and the moraine have several rocks formed into a ridge.
