Ch 7 - Operation of Systems Flashcards
What is the purpose of a carbeurator?
Mixes fuel and air in correct proportions to create a combustible mixture. Vaporizes the fuel, mixes it with air.
What is a magneto?
Provides electrical current to the spark plug to ignite at the right time in the engine cycle
Compass Errors
Erratic with steep bank
Deviation errors
Oscillation - erratic movement by turbulence or rough control
Magnetic Dip
- Acceleration (ANDS)
- Turns (NOSE)
Which standby instruments are normally provided in an advanced avionics aircraft?
Attitude, airspeed, altimeter
If a display failure occurs, what else could fail?
Consult POH. Could be nav, radio, GPS.
What info will be affected if an ADC fails?
Airspeed, altitude and VSI. Shown with red X’s on the PFD.
What to do if an engine fire when starting?
Try to get the engine going again, or keep it running. This should suck the fire into the engine. If does not start, turn off fuel, mixture and throttle. Fire extinguisher and evacuate.
What if the mags cause the engine to run rough during run up?
Could be a fouled spark plug, or other ignition failure. Have it checked before flying.
Significant mag drop could be mis-timed magneto.
No mag drop - hot magneto that does not stop running even when grounded.
What can cause spark plug fouling?
Mixture too rich. Excess fuel ignites, leaving dark carbon and lead deposits on spark plugs. Can foul, cause engine damage.
