Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs:
pyramid structure from base to tip:
Physiological, safety, social, esteem, and self-actualization
Maslow’s Hierachy Lower-order needs:
satisfied externally such as physiological and safety
Maslow’s Hierarchy Higher-order needs:
social, esteem, and self-actualization
McGregor Theory (X) and (Y)
“X” being the sad face, “Y” being the happy face. Theory X assumptions are basically negative. Theory Y assumptions are basically positive.
Herzberg Theory: Two-Factor Theory:
Adequate Hygiene Factors Don’t equal employee satisfaction; they just remove dissatisfaction. You need motivators to lead job satisfaction.
McClelland’s Motivational Needs:
There are three needs - power, achievement, affiliation. A high need to achieve does not necessarily make someone a good manager, especially in large organizations.
Specific goals leads to…

Difficult goals, when accepted, result in
higher performance than do easy goals!
Feedback leads to
higher performance than does non-feedback!
Self-Efficacy is the
belief in one’s capabilities to organize and execute the courses of action required to manage prospective situations.
