Ch. 7 Key Terms (elec. Esthetics) Flashcards
Form of energy that when in motion, exhibits magnetic, chemical or thermal effects
Electricity
Flow of electricity along a conductor
Electric current
Any material that easily conducts, or allows an electric current to pass ex. Metals, copper, water
Conductor
Any substance or material that does not allow an electrical current to pass ex. Rubber, wood, silk, glass, plastic
Insulator
Path of an electric current from the generating source through conductors and back to its original source
Complete electric circuit
Constant even flowing current that travels in one direction only. Battery powered devices
Direct current
Rapid and interrupted current, flows in one direction and then another. Plug ins
Alternating current
Apparatus that changes DC to AC
Converter
Apparatus that changes AC to DC
Rectifier
Measures the pressure or force of an electrical current
Volt
Unit that measures the amount of an electrical current
Ampere/Amp
1/1000th of an ampere, current used in facial and scalp treatments
Milliampere
Unit that measures the resistance of an electrical current current
Ohm
Measures how much electricity is used per second
Watt
Prevents too much current from passing through a circuit
Fuse
switch that automatically shuts off an electrical current circuit at the first sign of an overload
Circuit breaker
Supplies current to the circuit
Live connection
Completed the circuit and carried the current safely away to the ground
Ground connection
Electrical facial treatments
Electrotherapy
Substances that speed up chemical reactions
Catalysts
