M-249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW) Description and Data?
The M-249
automatic rifle is a gas-operated, air-cooled, belt- and magazine-fed, automatic weapon
that fires from the open-bolt position. It has a maximum rate of fire of 850 rounds per
minute. It can be fired from the shoulder, hip, underarm or bipod-steadied position.
M-240 Machine gun Description and Data
The M-240B is a general-purpose
machine gun. It mounts on a bipod, tripod, aircraft, or vehicle. It is a belt-fed, air-cooled,
gas-operated, fully automatic weapon. It fires from the open bolt position. Ammunition
feeds from a 100-round bandoleer with disintegrating links. Each M-240B is issued with a
spare barrel. The gunner can change barrels quickly, because the weapon has a fixed head
space.
