Ch 6b Quality Control/Phantoms Flashcards
What are the quality control tissue phantoms made of?
Graphite filled aqueous gels OR urethane rubber materials
Graphite particles in the tissue phantoms act as what in materials?
U/s scatterers (echo producers) in materials
Is attenuation in the tissue phantom materials similar to soft tissue?
Yes - propagation speed in 1.54 mm/microsecond in gels
Tissue equivalent phantoms typically contain what 2 things?
-Echo free (cystic) regions of various diameters + thin nylon lines (approx 0.2mm in diameter)
-Used to measure detail resolution + distance accuracy
Tissue equivalent phantoms simulate tissue properties which allow us to assess what 4 things?
-Detail + contrast resolutions
-Penetration
-Dynamic range
-TGC operation
Do test objects simulate tissue characteristics?
No!
What do test objects provide, since they do not simulate tissue characteristics?
Some specific measure of instrument performance
What 2 things do test objects contain + why?
-Nylon lines + scattering layers
-To allow evaluation of detail resolution + beam profiles
Doppler flow phantoms use what kind of liquid?
A flowing blood mimicking liquid
Doppler flow phantom devices are useful for testing what 4 things?
-The effective penetration of the doppler beam
-Ability to discriminate b/w different flow directions
-Accuracy of sample volume location
-Accuracy of the measured flow speed
Doppler test objects use what to scatter the
u/s?
A moving solid object (usually a string) for scattering the u/s
How many devices can measure the acoustic output of u/s instruments?
Several
Devices used to measure the acoustic output are normally used by what people?
Engineers + physicists (rather than by instrument operators)
What is another word for the hydrophone?
Microprobe
What device is m/c used to test acoustic output?
The hydrophone/microprobe
(dustin says this is a test question)
In response to the varying pressure of sound when measuring acoustic output, they produce a varying voltage that can be displayed on what?
An oscilloscope
Have acoustic pressure output levels been measured + intensified, as well have output indexes been calculated for various diagnostic u/s instruments + transducers?
Yes
Are anatomic imaging outputs highest or lowest?
Lowest
Are pulsed spectral doppler outputs highest or lowest?
Highest
Where does M-Mode + CD imaging outputs fall in regards to anatomic imaging + pulsed spectral doppler?
Falls b/w anatomic imaging + pulsed spectral doppler
Needle + membrane hydrophones are used to measure what?
Pressure amplitude + period
(from which several other acoustic pulse parameters can be calculated)
When is leakage testing done?
During disinfection
How to leak test a TEE probe?
-Attach TEE probe adapter to leakage tester
-Connect probes electrical connector to matching leakage tester adapter + lock in place
-Place leakage testers dual electrode in solution to a depth of at LEAST 1 inch
-Check solution for conductivity + perform leakage testing by pressing the full test button
-Document results (log pass or fail)
-If failed, follow facility’s guidelines + contact probe manufacturer for servicing
-Test different TEE probe to ensure leakage tester is working correctly
List the 4 steps in leakage testing based off the video?
- fill soak tray
- connect equipment (use either port)
- insert probes into soak tray
- turn on ULT-2020 (press full test + wait for results)
