a collection of beliefs about one’s nature, unique qualities and behavior.
What influences self concept?
how we relate to people, communicate and deal with others, and deal with a variety of situations in everyday life
What are our possible selves?
the person one might become in the future
What is the Social Comparison Theory?
compare ourselves with others to assess and/or improve
What are two different types of reference groups?
upward social comparison
downward social comparison
What is Self Esteem?
one’s overall assessment of one’s worth as a person
What is Individualism vs. Collectivism?
indivual goals (USA)
group goals (everywhere else)

Why is self esteem important?

actual, ideal, and ought self
