What is a cell membrane?
The outer covering; controls which substances enter and leave cell
What is cytoplasm
Gel like liquid inside cell that consists of water proteins carbs lipids and salts
What is the nucleus?
Controls activities of cell; contains the 23 chromosomes that contain genes
What are the 4 primary types of tissues and there function
1) epithelial- lines body cavities, covers internal and external organs.
2) connective- holds part of body inplace.
3) nervous- Transmit impulses throughout the body
4) muscular- contracts and relax to cause or allow movement
What are the two body cavities?
The posterior body cavity an anterior body cavity.
What does the posterior body cavity consist of?
Cranial cavity and the spinal cavity. They protect the structures of nervous system
What does the Anterior body consist of?
Thoracic cavity- heart, lungs
Abdominal cavity- stomach, intestines, liver, gallbladder, pancreas and spleen.
Pelvic cavity- urinary bladder, rectum, and reproductive organs
What is midsagital (middle) plane?
Through the center of body and divides into equal right and left sides.
Frontal plane (coronal)?
Divides body through the center and divides body into front and back portions
Transverse plane?
Divides horizontally into top and bottom portions
What are the abdominal regions?
R hypochondriac, epigastric, l hypochondriac, r lumbar umbilical, l lumbar, r iliac, hypogastric, l iliac
Couple facts about cells
Can produce, grow, and repair themselves.
Take in nutrients and oxygen to create heat and energy.
