Ch 6 Flashcards

1
Q

What are indicators

A

Weak acids or bases which are large organic molecules which change colour in response to changes in ph of the solution they’re dissolved in. their conjugate acid and base are two different colours, so depending on the PH, the colour of the conjugate acid in a low ph solution, or the conjugate base in a high ph solution will be the more predominant colour.

Q

what is methyl orange indicator?

A

red in acidic solutions and yellow in basic solutions. Changes colour from red to yellow over ph values of 3.1 to 4.4
used in the analysis of weak bases
