ch 1 Flashcards
what are the factors that can be measured to determine rate of reaction
-mass last by regent
- mass gained by product
- volume of gas
- pressure of gas
- colour intensity
- solution concentration
- ph
define collision theory
states correct particle orientation and sufficient energy are the two vital factors which must be met for a successful collision.
what is a Maxwell Boltzmann distribution
a curve showing the kenetic energy of all particles in a substance and the number of particles which surpass the activation energy needed for reaction to occur. number of particles on the y-axis and energy on the x-axis
what is an energy profile diagram
shows the energy needed for a reaction to occur, and the energy throughout the course of the reaction. (energy of reactants and energy of products). can determine if a reaction is endothermic (higher energy in products) or exothermic (higher energy in reactants)
what factors influence rate of reaction
surface area - more collisions
pressure - more collisions
concentration - more collisions
temperature - more successful collisions
catalysts - more successful collisions
what is the limiting reagent
the reagents which stops the reaction from proceeding.
