What is a common misconception regarding sampling?
That most behavioural research uses random samples. In fact, most psychological research does not address questions that require random sampling.
What is quota sampling?
A convenience sample in which the researcher takes steps to ensure that certain kinds of participants are obtained in particular proportions.
What is power?
The ability of a research design to detect any effects of the variables being studied that exist in the data.
What is the purpose of descriptive research?
To describe a phenomenon, not to test a hypothesis.
What is the most common type of descriptive research?
Survey research.
What do most surveys employ?
A cross-sectional survey design.
What is a successive independent samples survey design?
Two or more samples of respondents answer the same questions at different points in time.
What is demographic research concerned with?
Describing and understanding patterns of basic life events and experience.
What is epidemiological research used to study?
The occurrence of disease and death ind different groups of people.
