Mobility
All types of movement from one location to another, whether temporary/permanent or over short/long distances.
Circulation
Temporary, repetitive movements that recur on a regular basis.
Human Migratuib
The permanent movement of people from one place to another.

Movement away from a location
Immigration

Net migrarion
The diffference between the number of emigrants and immigrants in a location such as a city/ciyntry
Gravity Model (Improtant)
As the population of a city increases, migration to the city increases, and as the distance to a city grows, migration to that city decreases.
Push factor
A negative cause that compels someone to leave a location (i.e. gang violence)
Pull factor
A positive cause that attracts someone to a new location (i.e. safe neighborhoods)
Voluntrary migation
people make the choice to move to a new place
Forced migration
people are compelled to move by economic, political, environmental, or cultural factors.
Tramsnational migation
Immigrants to a new country retain strong cultural, emotional, and financial ties to their country of origin and may regularly return for visits.
Internal migration
Movement withing a country’s borders.
Friction of distance
The longer a journey is, the more time, effort, or cost it will involve.
Transhuamanance
A from of migration practiced by nomads who move herds between pastures at cooler, higher elevations during the summer and lower elevations during the winter.
Chain migration
People move to a new location because others from their community have previously migrated there.
Step migration
The series of smaller moves to get to the ultimate destination.
Intervening obstacle
An occurrence that holds migrants back.
Intervening opportunity
An occurrence that causes migrants to pause their journey by choice!
Guest workers
Migrants who travel to a new country as temporary laborers (i.e. mexicans)
Circular migration?
When migrant workers move back and forth between their country of origin and their destination country where they work temporary jobs
Refugees
People who are being forced to leave their country for fear of persecution or death.
Asylum
Some refugees (i.e. syrians) request this as the right to protection in the new country.
Distance decay
The farther you are from your country of origin, the less interaction you have with it.
