Ch 4-tissue Flashcards
Does desmosome plaque attach to microfilaments?
No, they attach to elements of cytoskeleton (intermediate filaments)
Tissue
A group of cells that are similar in structure and function.
What do intermediate filaments consist of?
Protein keratin
Desmosome
Contain plaque and has transmembrane glycoproteins that extend into the intercellular space between adjacent cell membranes and attach cells to one another.
Hemidesmosomes
- Resemble desmosomes but DONT link adjacent cells
- They look like half a desmosomes
Epithelial tissue
Covers and lines hollow organs, body cavities ducts
Forms Glands
Allows body to work w. Internal/external environments
Connective tissue
Protects and supports the body and its organs
Binds organs together
Stores energy
Helps provide body w. Immunity
Muscular tissue
Produces heat
Cells that contract and generate force
Nervous tissue
Detect changes inside and outside of the body
Generates electrical signals
Other names for electrical signals
Nerve impulses
Nerve action potential
What is the result of Nerve impulses/Nerve action potential
Muscular contractions and glandular secretion.
What do cell junctions contact?
Points between plasma mem. And tissue cells
What’s kind of strands do tight junctions consist of?
Weblike strands of trans membrane proteins
Tight junctions have. Trans mem proteins that fuse together, what?
Outer layer of adj. plasma mem. To seal off passage ways between adj. cells
What do right junctions prevent
Contents of organs leaking into blood stream or surrounding tissues
