Useful Load
A
Also known as Disposable Load
Includes:
- Passengers (pax)
- Cargo
- Fuel
Useful load = difference between the DOM and ATOM
*Long flights which require large amounts of fuel can limit the mass of pax and cargo allowed on board

Underload
A
The difference between the actual load and the allowed (maximum) traffic load
- Cannot exceed any performance or structural limitations
Allowed Traffic Load - Actual Traffic Load = Underload

Determining the Maximum Traffic Load
A
Max Traffic Load = ATOM (allowed t/o mass) - DOM (dry operating mass)
Can be worked out using the 3 column model
- MZFM + T/O Fuel
- RTOM
- RLM + Trip Fuel

Determining the Traffic Load in regard to Fuel
A
- Airlines usually carry the minimum amount of fuel required for sector
- Sometimes extra is carried for use on the next sector (save refuelling in destination for cost reasons)
