Also known as Disposable Load

Includes:

  • Passengers (pax)
  • Cargo
  • Fuel

Useful load = difference between the DOM and ATOM

*Long flights which require large amounts of fuel can limit the mass of pax and cargo allowed on board

A

The difference between the actual load and the allowed (maximum) traffic load

  • Cannot exceed any performance or structural limitations

Allowed Traffic Load - Actual Traffic Load = Underload

Determining the Maximum Traffic Load

A

Max Traffic Load = ATOM (allowed t/o mass) - DOM (dry operating mass)

Can be worked out using the 3 column model

  • MZFM + T/O Fuel
  • RTOM
  • RLM + Trip Fuel

Determining the Traffic Load in regard to Fuel

A
  • Airlines usually carry the minimum amount of fuel required for sector
  • Sometimes extra is carried for use on the next sector (save refuelling in destination for cost reasons)
