Crime Prevention Through Environmental Change (CPTED)
Proper design and effective use of the environment that can lead to a reduction in the fear and incidence of crime and improvement in the quality of life.
Examples of situational prevention :
- Installation of surveillance equip. In a parking lot having vandalisms
- Erecting security screens in banks to stop robberies
- Altering traffic patterns in drug market neighborhoods
- Electronic tags for library materials
- Caller ID for obscene calls

Second generation CPTED
Recognizes that the most valuable aspects of a safe community lie not in the structures of the brick and mortar type, but rather in structures of family, of thought and most importantly, of behavior. Looks at several social aspects of how neighborhoods work such as the size of the district, population density, differentiation of buildings, looks at urban meeting places, youth clubs.
Situation Crime Control (SCP)
It is focused on the settings for crime and the prevention of crime rather than on persons committing criminal acts. Environmental criminology approach that seeks to reduce crime opportunity by making settings less conducive to unwanted or illegal activity. Focuses on environment rather than the offender.
