fibromyalgia
chronic disorder that involves widespread pain in muscles and fibrous tissues around joints
amniocentesis
fluid is withdrawn from the amniotic sac for analysis between the 12th and 18th weeks of pregnancy
pleurodynia
pain in the chest wall muscles aggravated by breathing
ischemia
decrease in blood supply to tissues
due to a blood clot in a vessel or narrowing and closing off of a vessel
anemia
condition marked by reduction in the number or erythrocytes or in the amount of hemoglobin in the blood
hemolysis
normal breakdown of red blood cells
myosarcoma
malignant tumor found in the muscle tissue
multiple myeloma
malignant tumor that occurs in the bone marrow tissue throughout the body
cardiomyopathy
disease of the heart muscle in the absence of a known underlying cause
acrophobia
fear of heights
agoraphobia
fear of being outside of home alone, being in open or enclosed places, or using public transportation
achondroplasia
bones of the arms and legs do not grow to a normal size because of a defect in cartilage and bone formation
angioplasty
a narrowed blood vessel is opened using a balloon that is inflated after insertion. stents (slotted tubes) are then put in place to keep the artery open
blepharoptosis
drooping of the upper eyelid
atherosclerosis
deposits of fat collect in the artery
