Ch. 3 Flashcards
Electromagnetic Spectrum
The complete range of electromagnetic waves placed in order. Of increasing frequency.
Electromagnetic Wave
A transverse wave that involves the transfer of electric and magnetic waves.
Radio Waves
The electromagnetic waves with the longest wavelengths and the lowest frequencies.
Microwaves
EM waves with shorter wavelength and greater frequency than radio waves.
Radar
A system that uses reflected radio waves to detect objects.
Infrared Rays
EM waves with shorter wavelength than and higher frequencies than microwaves.
Thermogram
An image of regions of different frequencies in different colors.
Visible light
EM waves you can see.
UV rays
EM waves with shorter wavelength than visible light, but longer than X-Ray.
X-Rays
EM waves with shorter Wavelength than UV rays, but longer than gamma rays.
Gamma Rays
EM waves with the shortest wavelengths and the highest frequencies.
