CH 3 Flashcards
Describe grouo experimental designs and single subject designs
Group designs have a large amount of participants that may not blget treatment. Also group designs use inferential stats which can be p-hacking.
Single subject allow to turn on and off a functional variable on one individual.
Define internal validity
Experiment provides clear evidence that a functional relation exists between the Independent variable and behavioral change
What is a confound?
Variables that influence behavior but are not controlled by the experimentor
AB comparison design
Name when its used snd strengths and weaknesses
Baseline then intervention phase
Weaknesses-cant rule out confounds
Reversal ABA design
Name when its used and strengths and weaknesses.
Baseline intervention baseline
By turning off the intervention (IDV) we can evaluate if it plays a functional role in behavior.
Alternating Treatment design
Name when its used and strengths and weaknesses.
Used when 2 or more variables are alternated in random order.
Identify which is more effective
Multiple Baseline design
Name when its used and strengths and weaknesses.
When the intervention is expected to priduce an irreversible effect or unethical to remove the intervention
Different behaviors
Different individuals
Different settings
Theres no time coincidence
When there’s a change in behavior after intervention, control is demonstrated
What are the 3 defining features of single subject designs
Allows for clinicians to see if treatment efficientcy with every client (on and off)
No statistics to evaluate effects
All participants get the treatment
3 kinds of replication
Within individual
Across individuals
Across settings
