Chief Officers, Company Officers and Engine company chauffeurs shall familiarize themselves with the following information relative to hydrants and water mains in their respective administrative districts and response areas
- Location of all hydrants
- Hydrants with drain valve plugged or a history of freezing
- Size of water mains
- Location of dead end mains
- Mains not cross-connected
- Mains supplied by PRIVATE water supply corporations
What chiefs are authorized to order engine companies to respond with the apparatus for the purpose of shutting down hydrants unlawfully used. During such duty officers shall be alert to summon police assistance when required. Such units shall remain in service by radio for response to alarms

Requests for the installation of hydrants must be submitted in writing to the
Bureau of Operations. The administrative unit shall make an in site inspection and forward a report with the results with recommendations via the chain of command. Such report shall include the locations of the nearest hydrants in both directions as well as any unusual occupancies or conditions that support recommendation. Definitive intermediate endorsements shall be made
Auxiliary fire protection equipment in tunnels and on bridges, also towers, shafts and approaches thereto, shall be inspected
Semi Annually during the months of April and October
Auxiliary fire protection equipment in tunnels and on bridges, also towers, shafts and approaches thereto, shall follow these general guidelines
*Inspections shall be carried out under the direct supervision of Deputy Chiefs
*Such supervisory Chief Officers shall utilize the apparatus and members of Engine Companies and other units in carrying out necessary inspectional duties
*Supervisory Chief Officers shall notify the dispatcher of the identity of the units participating, their location, and the unit designation as radio contact. During such inspectional activity, units shall NOT, unless otherwise directed by the dispatcher, respond to alarms
*Supervisory Chief Officers conducting Bridge and Tunnel inspections shall forward reports to Division Commanders with all pertinent information. A-8 forms and recommendations for necessary corrective action on deficient or inadequate equipment
shall be included
*Division Commanders shall forward a consolidated report, plus A-8 off a where applicable, of all bridge and tunnel violations to the Filed/Public Communications Supervisor, BOFP. Individual bridge and tunnel reports shall be filed at the Division Command
*The Field/Public Communications Supervisor, BOFP shall be responsible for notifications to the agencies concerned and for necessary follow-up
