CH 20: Pathology Flashcards
radiolucent
permits passage of most of the x rays
- black of x ray
radiopaque
absorb most of the x rays i.e. bone; allow only small fraction of x ray to reach x ray plate
- appear white on film
angiography
x ray image (angiogram) of blood vessels and heart chambers is obtained after contrast is injected through a catheter into appropriate blood vessels or heart chamber
cholangiography
x ray imaging after injection of contrast into bile ducts
- via ERCP: endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography
hysterosalpingography
xray record of the endometrial cavity and fallopian tubes is obtained after injection of contrast material through the vagina and into the endovervical canal
myelography
xray imaging of the spinal cord (myel/o) after injection of contrast agent into the subarachnoid space surrounding the spinal cord
pyelography
xray imaging of the renal pelvis and urinary tract
xray positioning
- Posteroanterior (PA): X-ray from posterior to anterior
- Anteroposterior (AP): from anterior to posterior
- lateral view: from right of patient to left
- oblique view: slanting direction at an angle from perpendicular plane
Position of patient during x ray
- abduction
- adduction
- eversion: turning outward
- extension
- flexion
- inversion: turning inward
- lateral decubitus: lying down on the side
- prone: lying on the belly (face down)
- recumbent: lying down (may be prone or supine)
- supine: lying on the back (face up)
