Q

Body’s compensations to shock

A

The body compensates shock by increase heart rate + cardiac contractility (force) : vasoconstriction of vessel in skin and no vital organs maintain blood volume: stimulation of thirst (hypothalamus) kidney to retain sodium +water decrease urine output liver- construction of vines + sinusoids with mobilization of blood stored in liver

Q

What causes anaphylactic shock

Hemorrhagic Shock

Cardiogenic Shock

A

Anaphylactic Caused by allergen massive dilation aka distributive shocks

Hemorrhagic: loss of blood volume acute loss of blood circulating

Cardiogenic: occurs when the heart fails to pump blood sufficiently to meet the body’s demands

Q

What happens with heart failure

A

Inability of heart to maintain sufficient cardiac output to meet metabolic demands of tissue and organs

Results in congestion if blood flow I the systemic or pulmonary venous circulation inability to increase cardiac output

Diastolic: CAD + Hypertension systolic: MI reduces Contractility

Q

Peripheral Edema

A

Occurs when blood is not pumped efficiently or plasma protein levels are inadequate to maintain osmotic pressure. When blood has nowhere else to go it enters the tissues

Skin to determine peripheral edema
Weight gain can indicate edema
Peripheral pulses
