flour and water mixture that is dried; “worm castles”; “teeth dullers”

What was medical care like in the war?
Terrible conditions;
Unsanitary;
Water was often dirty;
Doctores used: Bone saws, tourniquets, scalpels, splints
What kind of food and water did the soldiers have?
North tried to supply through railroad;
Hardtack;
Coffee – used coffee beans in North; Chicory Root in South;
Berries, fruits – dried fruit;
Often raided each other’s camps and farms to get food; steal pigs from farms

Kentucky, Missouri and Maryland

Book: Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe – about slavery and it was wrong;
South’s book: Aunt Phyllis’s’ Cabin which supported slavery
