  • Build enthusiasm for upcoming speaker
  • Build enthusiasm for speaker’s topic
  • Establish welcoming climate that will boost the speaker’s credibility

No more than 2-3 min long, can be shorter

  • Be brief (2-3 min long, can be shorter)
  • Make sure your remarks are completely accurate (Check w/ speaker ahead time to make sure accurate)(Above all, get the speaker’s name right)
  • Adapt your remarks to the main speaker (Don’t make then feel uncomfortable
    or overpraise the person, especially for their speaking skills or reveal embarrassing details of the speaker’s personal life)
  • Adapt remarks to the occasion
  • Adapt your remarks to the audience
    (Aim to make this particular audience want to hear this speaker on this subject)
    (If audience doesn’t know speaker–Establish credibility of speaker by recalling their achievements and explaining why they’re qualified)
    (Tell the audience what they want to hear, give them info that is interesting)
  • Try to create a sense of anticipation and drama (usually you should save speaker’s name for last) (If the audience knows the speaker–try to cast the speaker in a new light and be creative. Talk to the speaker to get interesting not-well-known facts abt them. )

  • Praise losers
    If award was won in a public competition and the audience knows who the losers are you should praise the losers
