~For those with personality disorders, flexibility is usually missing
~ This pattern is seen in most interactions, differs from the experiences and behaviors usually expected of people, and continues for years
DSM Checklist for personality disorder
The individual displays a long-term, rigid, and wide-ranging pattern of inner experience and behavior that leads to dysfunction in at least two of the following realms (cognition, emotion, social interactions..)
~ sig distress or impairment
Onset of personality disorders
~ recognizable in early adolescence or childhood
~ many aren’t aware of their disorder
~ among most difficult psych disorders to treat
~ 15% of us pop is affected
Clarifying PDs
- odd or eccentric behavior
- dramatic, emotional, or erratic behavior
- anxious or fearful behavior
