1st hr = every 15 min
2nd hr = every 30 min
24 hr = every 4 hours

prolonged labor
anemia
multiple vag exams during labor
precipitous labor
uterine atony
placenta previa/ abruptio
retained placental fragments
PP Danger Signs
Fever
Blood clots
Calf pain - DVT
SOB - PE

-pain/ discomfort
-lochia
-uterus
-hygiene
-immunizations
-activity/ exercise
-lactation
Ambulation PP
-check BP first
-elevate HOB
-pt sit on side of bed
-help pt stand
-stay w/ mom the whole time. she might faint
Postpartum Blue
-transient emotional disturbances
-anxiety, irritability, insomnia, crying, loss of appetite, sadness
-s/s begin 2 to 4 days after birth and resolve by day 8
-need sleep
-pp depression + psychosis are more serious and require tx
Physical Assessment PP
-breasts (size, contour, engorgement)
-uterus (fundus height, firmness)
-bladder (voiding)
-bowels (distention, sounds)
-lochia (amount, color, odor)
-episiotomy (lacerations, hematoma, check sutures)
