Ch 13 Fetal Assessment During Labor Flashcards
In vertex position, where is PMI located
Either the right or left lower quadrant above the maternal umbilicus
In breech presentation, where is PMI located
Either the right or left upper quadrant
How are external fetal monitors used
A ultrasound transducer is placed over the clients abdomen to determine PMI, which records the FHR, and a tocotransducer that records uterine contractions
What is considered marked variability in FHR
A increase greater than 25
What is considered moderate variability in FHR
A increase of 6-25
What is considered minimal variability of FHR
Greater than undetectable but less than 5
Episodic FHR patterns
Are not assoc with uterine contractions
Periodic changes of FHR
Occur with uterine contractions
What are uterine contractions comprised of
Increment- the beginning of the contraction as intensity is increasing
Acme- the peak intensity of the contraction
Decrement- the decline of the contraction intensity as the contraction is ending
How are absent or undetectable variability of FHR categorized
As non reassuring
What is PMI
Point of maximum impulse
The optimal location where the FHT are auscultated the loudest on the woman’s abdomen.
