Ch. 13 Drugs - Nervous System Flashcards
Fibers convey impulses from CNS to internal organs
Visceral Efferent (motor) fibers
Fibers which convey impulses from internal organs back to CNS
Visceral Afferent (sensory) fibers
Fibers which convey impulses from head, body wall, and extremities to the CNS
Somatic Afferent (sensory) fibers
Fibers which convey impulses from CNS to the striated muscles
Somatic Efferent(motor) fibers
What is the neurotransmitter for the preganglionic fiber at the junction between the preganglionic fiber and the synapse?
Acetylcholine
What is the neurotransmitter between the sympathetic postganglionic fiber and the effector cell?
Norepinephrine
Where are Muscarinic receptors found?
Neuromuscular junction of cardiac and smooth muscle cells
Where are Nicotinic receptors found?
Neuromuscular junction of skeletal muscles
What does receptors Atropine block?
Muscarinic receptors
What does Curare block?
Nicotinic
What do selective beta-blocking agents block?
Beta1 & Beta2 RECEPTORS
Aka Cardioselective Blockers (b/c block beta1 receptors & have minimal beta2 effects)
Metoprolol, Atenolol
What do nonselective beta-blocking agents block?
Beta1 & Beta2 RECEPTOR SITES
Inhibit beta receptors sites in smooth muscle of bronchioles and blood vessels
Nadolol, Propanolol, Labetalol
