Ch. 13 Aquinas Summa Etc. Flashcards
1
Q
How is it proved that there is no infinite regress?
A
1) if you take away the first mover, then nothing would be moved
2) if there were causes that went to infinity then bodies would be infinite
3) If something moves, it must have a principle mover. If all are principle movers, then nothing is moved
2
Q
How should we approach criticisms to cosmological arguments?
A
Look for the premise that fails and determine why it fails
3
Q
Aquinas’s argument is cosmological. Explain this.
A
It relies on dependence since he mentions movers and an unmoved mover in which there is no infinite regress.
