Facing one’s troubles and trying to solve them and it results in positive change.
Emotion-Cocused Coping
Respond in an emotional manner by using defense mechanisms.
Avoidance, rationalization, denial, etc.
Alcohol
Alcohol abuse in adolescents has begun to decline.
Binge drinking increases during emerging adulthood.
By their mid-twenties, alcohol and drug use declined.
Hallucinogens
LSD and marijuana.
Modify an individual’s perceptual experiences through hallucinations.
Ecstasy
MDMA has both stimulant and hallucinogenic effects. Heightened sensations in touch and sight.
Conduct Disorder
Diagnosed when multiple behaviors occur over 6 months.

Causes

25% develop antisocial personality disorder and have no regard for right or wrong and ignore the feelings of others.
Depression
Adolescents are more depressed than children. Girls are more depressed than boys.

Overweight and Obese adolescents
The problem in adolescent and emerging adulthood. Obesity in adolescence is linked with obesity in adulthood. Negative effects on physical health and socio-emotional development.
Obesity Treatment
Helping the client lose weight by changing their behavior.
Anorexia Nervosa
Pursuit of thinness through starvation and an intense fear of gaining weight.
Bulimia Nervosa
Binge purge patterns. Most are depressed or anxious and are at a normal weight.
