3 Principles of Air Management
1) always know how much air you have left
2) know your point of no return
3) inform IC if you must exit structure

Search Preparation
-pre plans of target hazards and knowing building layouts
-utilizing proper tools and equipment (radio, TIC, flashlight, search ropes, hand tools)
Search Safety Guidelines
-do not enter where survivors are not likely to be found
-close doors to isolate areas and control fire spread
-control exterior doors to control flow path
Fire Isolation
-locate and isolate the fire
-start search closest to the fire
Marking Systems
X - single slash when you enter, second slash when you exit
-mark other relevant info (date, time, unit name, hazards, victims still inside)
Primary Search
Rapid search before or during fire suppression operations
Secondary Search
Slow, thorough search after the fire is under control
Search methods
Right or left hand searches
Start as close to the fire as possible
Oriented search w/ firefighter left at the door
Control doors and close them after searching a room
Maintain radio contact w/ IC
