CH 10 PT 2 Flashcards
Describe elasticity.
Elasticity is the ability of a muscle to return to its original length following a lengthening or shortening.
What is conductivity?
Conductivity is the process of sending an electrical change down the length of the cell membrane.
Define contractility.
Contractility is the ability of muscle filaments to slide past each other, enabling muscle to cause movement
What is extensibility?
Extensibility is the ability of a muscle to be stretched.
Describe excitability.
Excitability is the ability of a cell to respond to a stimulus by changing its electrical membrane potential.
Describe the structure of a muscle.
A skeletal muscle is an organ composed of multiple types of tissues working together, including skeletal muscle fibers, connective tissue, blood vessels, and nerves.
What is a fascicle?
A fascicle is a bundle of muscle fibers within a skeletal muscle.
Define a whole muscle.
A whole muscle is composed of many fascicles.
What is a muscle fiber?
A muscle fiber is a muscle cell.
What is Epimysium
a dense irregular connective tissue wrapping the whole muscle
What is Perimysium
Dense irregular connective tissue wrapping a fascicle that houses many blood vessels and nerves
What is Endomysium
Areolar connective tissue wrapping an individual fiber, and a delicate layer for electrical insulation, capillary support, binding of neighboring cells
