What are the three kinds of B cells made
Short lived plasma cell, long lived plasma cell, central memory b celss
Where are short lived plasma cells made
Produced in lymphoid follicles of secondary lymphoid organs
Where do short lived plasma cells go
Bone marrow and spleen
What do short lived plasma cells do
Produce tons of antibodies living only a few days
Where are long lived plasma cells produced
Lymphoid follicles of secondary lymphoid organs
Where do long lived plasma cells travel
Bone marrow
What do long lived plasma cells do
Produce modest amounts of antibodies and provide life long antibody protection
What are memory stem cells
Slow proliferating cells that replace long lived plasma cells that die and maintain pool of central memory b cells that proliferate and make more short lived plasma b cells if encountering an invader again
What do effector T cells do
Travel to battle site and fight dying days later
What do memory effector cels do
Travel to battle site and remain for up to 10 years
What do central memory t cells do
Some activated t cells stay in secondary lymphoid organs and bone marrow
During attacks what do central memory t cells do
Activate, proliferate (mostly to effector type cells) and go to battle site
What is the benefit of memory cells
More specificity, easier to activate, upgradable via somatic hypermutation
Are T cells equivalent to long lived plasma B cells
Nope, memory b cells make antibodies/ memory T cells are dormant.
