Held large estates & had political power
- kings, dukes, counts, barons, and bishops
What is chivalry?
Code of ethics knights must uphold, requiring respect
What was the status of medieval women? Differences for aristocratic women?
Were controlled by father/husband; aristocratic women would manage estate while husband was away at war/court
