CH 10 Flashcards
Define systems development life cycle (SDLC). What are its 5 phases?
A series of well-defined phases performed in sequential order for developing a system or project.
5 phases include:
- planning
- requirements gathering and analysis
- design
- implementation
- maintenance
What are 5 major dimensions of feasibility study?
- technical
- operational
- economic
- scheduling
- legal
What are 3 examples of tools used in structured systems analysis and design (SSAD)?
- data flow diagram
- flowchart
- context diagram
During the SDLC process, what is the output of the design phase?
A document with exact specifications for implementing the system. Including files and databases, forms and reports, documentation, procedures, hardware and software, networking components, and general system specifications.
What are the 4 steps in the prototyping process?
- Define the initial requirements
- Develop the prototype
- Review and evaluate the prototype
- Revise the prototype
What is parallel conversion?
The old and new systems run simultaneously for a short time to ensure the new system works correctly.
What are 5 reasons that IT projects may fail?
- Missed deadlines
- Users’ needs that are not met
- Dissatisfied customers
- Lack of support from top management
- Exceeding the budget
What is crowdsourcing? What are 2 advantages of crowdsourcing?
The process of outsourcing tasks that are traditionally performed by employees or contractors to a large group of people (a crowd) through an open call.
- less cost
- access to talents that an organization may not have.
