Cross sectional studies
Examine data at one point in time-data collected only one time
Longitudinal
Collects data from the same sample at different points in time
Other names are prospective, repeated measures, and cohort studies
Correlational
Does not equal causation; are either alternate explanations? Not a cause and effect
Investigator
Examines the relationship between two or more variables
Comparative studies
Determines differences between variables (survey)
Descriptive
Measuring characteristics of a variable (survey)
Developmental studies
Changes that result from elapsed time (cross sectional, longitudinal, ex post facto, prospective, cohort study)
Prospective study
