Common good
A benefit to all citizens or a community as a whole
NorthWest Passage
A northern ocean trade route around North America connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean.
Mercantilism
An economic policy in which the goal is to gain wealth by exporting more goods than are imported.
Missionary
A person who attempts to convert people religiously.
Indigenous
Originating from or first to live in a particular region or environment.
Persecute
To treat an individual or group cruelly, especially because of race or political or religious beliefs.
Sanctuary
A place of safety, especially for religious worship.
Primary Source
First-hand information about historical events. An original record of a past event, usually created by someone who actually saw or participated in the event.
Secondary Source
These provide interpretations of events by people who were not present at the events they discuss: a history textbook.
Cite
To refer to something.
Economic
Of or relating to the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services.
Sectionalism
Loyalty to one’s own region or localized interests, instead of to the country as a whole
