Indirect democracy
a group of persons chosen by the people express the will of the people, widely used in a national, state, and local levels Ex. A legislator voted
Autocracy
A government on which a single person holds unlimited political power
Oligarchy
A government in which the power to rule is held by a small, usually self-appointed elite
Unitary government
All powers held by central government, limited power to local governments
Federal government
The powers of government are divided between a central government and several local governments
Confederate Government
Local government has more power, An alliance of independent states that grant limited power to central government, usually involving defense or foreign affairs
Presidential government
Divides executive & legislative power of government coequally
Parliamentary government
The legislative branch chooses the executive and has full power, Executive branch made up of the prime ministers or premier, and that official’s cabinet
Direct Democracy
Occurs when the will of the people translates directly into public policy, works on a small local level “pure democracy” Ex. Town Meeting
