Taser justification:
Officers will assess if the deployment of the CEW is the best option for the prevailing situation having regard to the Criteria to Discharge a Taser to:
Protect human life,
Protect yourself or others where violent confrontation or violent resistance is occurring or imminent,
protect an officer/s in danger of being overpowered or to protect themselves or another person from the risk of actual bodily harm, or
Protection from animals.
In what direction do the taser probes fire?
Top probe fires horizontal

Aim for the centre of seen target mass of the back (where possible avoid the head)
CEW - Secondary target area:
Secondary Target Areas – aim for the lower torso front. (Split the waistline)
CEW - How long is a single taser cycle?
5 seconds
CEW - What is multiple cycles?
More than one single cycle
When must you reconsider use of CEW (and move to another tactical option)?
After three cycles fail to control the person

What are some of the CEW safety considerations?
- Always treat as if armed and ready to discharge
- Don’t point at hands and face
- Ensure safety on (before loading or removing cartridge, when not intended to be used, before handovers between officers)
When does the audible beep sound during discharge?
After 3 seconds
Once the CEW beeps during discharge, how long is there to go in the cycle?
2 seconds
5 second cycle > beeps at 3 seconds > 2 seconds remaining
