Cervical Vasculature Flashcards
What veins contribute to the external jugular vein?
The retromandibular vein and and the posterior auricular veins.
What does the external jugular vein drain into?
The subclavian vein.
What does the jugulodigastric lymph node drain?
The jugulodigastric drains the tonsils.
What does the jugulo-omohyoid lymph node drain?
It drains the anterior tongue.
What is the significance of the Delphian lymph node?
The delphian node is right above the isthmus of the thyroid gland. It is very superficial, and thyroid or laryngeal cancer will show up in the delphian node first.
What is the significance of the Virchow’s signal nodes?
They are right next to the thoracic duct.
Where do the visceral sensory fibers of the cervical region in CN VII, IX, and X synapse?
In the nucleus of the solitary tract (NTS).
Where are the cell bodies for motor fibers to the intrinsic laryngeal muscles that travel in CN IX and X located?
In the nucleus ambiguus.
What other cell bodies does the nucleus ambiguus contain?
It has cell bodies for parasympathetic fibers to the SA node.
What does the thyroides ima artery arise from?
The brachiocephalic trunk.
What do the superior and middle thyroid veins drain into?
The internal jugular vein.
What does the inferior thyroid vein drain into?
The brachiocephalic vein.
