Vertebral Artery test
To asses : circulation deficiency of vertebral artery at transverse foramen
Client: seated or supine - extend head and Neck and fully rotate - hold30secs
Positive: if client report Vertigo and Nausea eyes goes nystagmus
Tmj joint AF ROM
To asses:
motion of mandible at tmj
Therapist: place fingers at both hands @mandibular condyle
Client: open and close mandible slowly and fully
Positive: tmf clicking , crepitus asymmetry and smooth
3 Knuckle Test
To demonstrate: available ROM of depression of the mandible
Client: insert non- dominant flex fingers 3 knuckle wide
Positive: tmj joint hypomobility 1or2 knuckle
Swallowing Test
To determine: wheather pain on swallowing due to referred pain from SCM triggerpnt
Client: seated - pincer grasp SCM- tender point is found - maintain pressure while Client swallow
Positive: if pain Diminish = trigger point @SCM
Scalene Cramp Test
To : reproduce the pain of active scalene trigger point
Clinet : seated- fully rotate head to affected side- pull chin inferior into hollow just posterior clavicle
Positive: pain in refered area for scalene mm
Scalene relive test
To asses the presence of active trigger pnt in the anterior scalene
Client: seated - instructed place forearm on affected side across forehead - close to elbow as possible
Positive: reduction of pain within few mins
Atlanto-occipital Articulation PR ROM
to asses: movement flexion , extention , coupled with side bending @ atlanto-occipital joint
Client: supine - grasp clients head with both hand on occipitals region -
To asses Flexion/ side bending compartment - flex client the end range - laterally directed pressure to head from Left to Right- right to left- clients eyes Open
Positive: if flexion n sidebending restriction at atlanto occipital - palpated subtle leathery end feel
To asses : Extention / Sidebending compartment
Client: without head off table - slight extend the head - same as above
Positive: same as above
Spurling ‘s test
To asses: compression of cervical nerve root or for Facet joint irritation in the lower c-spine
Patient: seated - stand behind - head slowly extend and rotate to Affected side - carefully compress client head
Positive: pain radiate in arm on affected side / local pain = cervical joint irritation
Cervical Compression Test
A variation for client who cant rotate or extend the head
Cervical Distraction test
To asses: pressure on cervical nerve root
Place: hand on client head at occiput and temporal area - raction in superior direction - maintain at least 30 sec
Positive: reduction of pain
First rib mobility
To asses: mobility of first rib
Client: seated - instructed Rotate head Fully away from affected side - flex head forward to the chest as far as possible
Positive: first rib mobility is indicated by limtied flexion
Anterior Neck Flexors Strength test
To asses: scm - ant scalenes - suprahyoids, infrahyoid- Longus capitus & Coli & Rectus capitus Anterior muscles
Client: supine- arm abduct90- elbow flex - back of hand resting on table( to reduce effect of shoulder mm recruitment - instructed to tuck chin in - then Head off tAble - grade3 if maintain against gravity
Positive: Ant neck mm weakness
Anterolateral neck flexors strength test ,AR
To asses: scm and Scalens mmm
Supine- like ant neck test
Stabilize on side being tested
Instructed to rotate face away from side being assess and lift head off table
