series of nerve loops from anterior rami of C1-C4
Cutaneous branches of cervical plexus (4)
greater auricular nerve
transverse cervical nerve
lesser occipital nerve
supraclavicular nerves
Greater auricular nerve
C2-C3
sensory
innervates skin near concha auricle (outer ear) and external acoustic meatus (ear canal)
Transverse cervical nerve
C2-C3
sensory
innervates anterior region of neck
Lesser occipital nerve
C2-C3
sensory
innervates the skin and scalp posterosuperior to the auricle
Supraclavicular nerves
C3-C4
sensory
innervate region of supraspinatus, shoulder, and upper thoracic region
Ansa cervicalis
loop formed from C1-C3 motor geniohyoid (C1 only) thyrohyoid (C1 only) sternothyroid sternohyoid omohyoid
Phrenic nerves
C3-C5 (primarily C4)
motor and sensory
innervates diaphragm and the pericardium
Segmental branches of cervical plexus
C1-C4
motor
innervates anterior and middle scalenes
