patient is supine, have pt move head off table and extend, sidebend and rotate; ask patient to report dizziness or visual changes, watch for nystagmus
Steps in HVLA
- diagnose SD
- soft tissue prep
- localize to segment
- release enhancing maneuver
- accumulate forces
- corrective force
- reassess
Preperative treatment for cervical HVLA
contralateral traction, suboccipital release, bilateral forearm forearm fulcrum, unilateral forearm fulcrum bending
C2-7 mechanics
type 2
C2-7 HVLA with rotation emphasis
provide minimal flexion or extension, sidebend towards EASE to level of dysfx, rotate TOWARDS RB to level of dysfx
C2-7 HVLA with sidebending emphasis
provide minimal flexion or extension, sidebend towards dysfx, rotate toward EASE
Mechanics of AA

opposite side
which arm of patient is cross over top
PTP side arm
hand placement for kirksville crunch
thenar eminence of PTP
direction of sidebending for kirksville crunch
type I: sidebend away from doc
Type 2: side bend towards doc
hand placement for type II extended T-spine supine HVLA
place hand on vertebrae below dysfx and thrust above hand toward dysfx vertebral body
